The shotgun category is for long guns with relatively large bores (inner barrel diameters). Most are smoothbore and shoot clouds of spherical metal shot, hence the nickname “scattergun.” Other models called slug guns are rifled for shooting only heavy slugs or saboted bullets for hunting deer and other big game.
